Tips for Communication

Students, I have been attending webinars from college admission counselors and they have given some tips for communication.

1. Make sure you are checking your email daily- I am sure you know this by now but please make sure you are checking your email regularly.

2. Get used to using the phone - At this time college admission counselors may be calling you, they may be asking for over the phone or video conferences. Please make sure you are answering your phone or at least SETTING UP YOUR VOICEMAIL- that was a big one. Many students do not have their voicemails setup. We suggest you do this at this time.

ACT Updates for Juniors

Because you will not be taking the ACT at AMES this year, students can use a serialized voucher from ACT to cover the cost of taking a national test on June 13th, July 18th, or this fall (date TBD) . We will provide additional information as we receive it.

For Seniors COVID-19 and the FAFSA

Unfortunately, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many families are experiencing unexpected financial burdens, including unemployment or a decrease in pay. If you completed or plan to complete the 2020-2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), please note that this application uses tax information from 2018 to determine your eligibility for federal financial aid. If your financial situation has changed drastically since 2018, it is of vital importance to contact the financial aid office at your college or university as soon as possible to discuss your options. Each institution will have its own method for documenting your new financial situation and reassessing your financial need:

Online Summer Courses

Many of you have been asking about taking extra courses especially now since you are home. Here is a list of online schools that may offer courses you can take for original credit during the summer. Please make sure you talk with Denece or Kari first to make sure you are signing up for the right course:

Have a great week!
